Story
Did you know that out of every 78 people in Brighton and Hove, 1 person doesn't have a home?
They don't have a roof over their head, they don't have a secure front door, they don't have somewhere they can cook or store food, clean their clothes, clean themselves, or lie down and go to sleep feeling safe.
1 in every 78.
In the last year, rough sleeping has risen by more than 20% in the UK’s most affected locations, including here in Brighton & Hove. That means help for people without a home is needed more than ever right now.
The cost-of-living crisis is pushing more and more people into homelessness, with rising prices forcing people who have never slept rough before onto the streets for the first time.
The ultimate impact is expressed through the tragic statistic that the number of unattended deaths on our City’s streets rose from 31 to 43 in 2022-3. Most of these were anonymous and unclaimed. The shocking average age of death for rough sleepers is 47 for men and 43 for women.
It's not good enough. We live in abundant times, we just need to make sure that it filters down to the people who need it the most, the people surviving and not thriving.
Please give generously. Even if it's a couple of pounds, it all adds up and it all goes to help. Together we're stronger. Together we're unbreakable.
