The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea.

Story

A few of us from my work team are raising money for the RNLI in mudeford, by aiming for 600,000 steps collectively between 14th and 31st oct. This is not an easy task particularly as we are a community nursing team and so in and out of the office as well as our seeing individuals in the community meaning a lot of time driving.

On the 19th sept my 11 year old daughter was out with my friend and their son and both children were dragged out to sea from being only knee deep at our local beach, two strangers ran in fully clothed and saved her their lives… Billie (my daughter) remembered float to live thankfully. The stranger who saved her did not wait to be thanked while we went to get Billie, nor did he come forward when I made a post looking for him. his colleague told us who he was and put us in touch.

We have so far only been able to find the man that saved Billie, nor the man that saved her friend.

Anyway today we met him (his name is omitted from this to respect his privacy), he saved her life and was out with his wife and kids when he left them and ran into the water out of his own depth, fully clothed and got Billie back to land on his back, he than walked home soaking wet.

This gent works for the mudeford RNLI, we’ve recently been able to meet him and all he was worried about was showing the kids the awesomeness of the station letting them get in the lifeboat, try on the uniforms and praise Billie for her use of the “float to live”. He is such a selfless person and wanted no appreciation or glory for saving Billie.

I have this evening asked him if there is anything else I can do as I will never really be able to repay him for saving Billie and he has said any fundraising for the RNLI would be fab but is not expected.

Too many people are still drowning. More than ever we need the RNLI’s help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on our donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.

RNLI lifesavers are our lifeline. They’re the lifeboat crews who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. The lifeguards keeping watch on 240 of the busiest beaches in the UK and Channel Islands. And the RNLI safety teams and educators working tirelessly to stop people getting into trouble in the first place.

Thank you.
