Story
Some of you will know that this year I’m taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in memory of my lovely friend Hannah Corne, raising money for the incredible team at St Gemma’s Hospice. ❤️
St Gemma’s cared for Hannah and is also, of course, my place of work. Every day I see the huge impact the hospice has on the people of Leeds when they need support most, but being part of the organisation that cared for Hannah makes this challenge feel incredibly personal to me.
Now, before anyone imagines me striding heroically across all three peaks in one go… let’s manage expectations slightly. 😅
I’ll be setting off with my brilliant St Gemma’s colleagues to complete the first peak, then heading back to tackle the second, and returning again for the third. Not because I don’t love a challenge (although honestly, I’m slightly terrified), but because after my dramatic brush with Covid during the pandemic, my body still likes to remind me who’s boss five years later.
So this challenge is huge for me personally. It’s about pushing myself, knowing my limits, and doing something meaningful without requiring Mountain Rescue or causing a full blown medical incident halfway up a hill.
Hannah would be absolutely amazed I’m even attempting this. She once described me as “fierce” and someone who “takes no shit” — although she did kindly balance that by saying I was also “bloody nice and lovely”. That pretty much sums Hannah up really. Sharp, funny, warm and completely herself.
She was one of life’s real characters and I miss our laughs, our ridiculous in jokes and the positive energy she brought into a room without even trying.
This one’s for you Han. ❤️
If you’re able to sponsor me, cheer me on, or simply enjoy the thought of me voluntarily climbing large hills multiple times, I’d be hugely grateful. Every penny raised will help St Gemma’s continue supporting local families through some of the hardest moments of their lives.
