Kate's fundraiser for Landlark - "Building a world where everyone lives free from domestic abuse and violence".

Kate Nation is raising money for Landlark

Fight Night - An Evening of White Collar Boxing Cambridge · 5 July 2025

We want a world where everyone lives free from domestic abuse and violence. We fund vital relationship education in schools to help equip young people, in an age appropriate way, with the tools to recognise relationships which have the potential to become abusive, coercive and controlling.

Story

🥊 10 Years of Turtle Dove Cambridge: A Reflection & A Fight for Freedom

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

Ten years ago, Turtle Dove Cambridge began with a simple idea: every young woman deserves to feel valued, heard, and empowered — especially those who’ve experienced trauma like abuse, bullying, or homelessness.

When we asked the young women we supported what held them back, 70% said “lack of confidence.” And when we asked what helped them build it? Their answer was clear: “Being trusted with real responsibility in a team.”

That insight shaped Turtle Dove’s foundation. Since then, we’ve supported hundreds of young women across Cambridge with:

- Work experience and training

- Peer support and personal development

- Our annual Young Women’s Conference

All designed to build confidence and create real pathways into society.

💥 Surviving the Odds — and Still Fighting

At our five-year mark, we’d just received our first major funding when the pandemic hit. It nearly shut us down.

But while 70% of small businesses don’t make it past five years, we’re still here. Stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever.

🚨 A National Emergency

We’re now facing one of the biggest issues affecting the young women we support:

Violence against women and girls.

Every day in the UK, over 3,000 crimes of violence against women are recorded.

These make up nearly 1 in 5 of all recorded crimes.

🛡 Why I’m Fundraising for the Landlark Foundation

To mark this milestone, I’m stepping into the boxing ring — not just for myself, but for the young women who fight every day to survive abuse and reclaim their lives.

I’m raising funds for The Landlark Foundation, an organisation working to end domestic and sexual violence and abuse before it starts.

Landlark provides education in schools, survivor-led projects, and early intervention programmes — providing tools and hope long before crisis hits.

If Landlark is well supported, Turtle Dove won’t have to pick up the pieces of young women as young as 14 who’ve experienced abuse no one should endure.

🥊 Why Boxing?

Boxing represents resilience, focus, and strength — the same qualities survivors show every day.

It’s also personal. Years ago, I walked away from this challenge. I wasn’t ready, and I was pouring everything into running Turtle Dove. But now, we have a strong team. I’m no longer needed in every detail, and I’ve reclaimed time for myself — for what makes me feel alive and free.

Boxing has become a powerful way to manage my ADHD. It helps me focus, sleep, and channel emotion. And yes, it’s still a male-dominated space — but feminism benefits everyone. We need men to fight with us for change, not against us.

Did you know that England only lifted its ban on women’s boxing in 1996? You can read more about the history of women's boxing here.

✊ Standing Up, Even When It's Hard

Recently, I was forcibly removed from an informal boxing group after I spoke up about sexist and racist remarks. That experience pushed me back to the female-only boxing group at Albion Boxing Club — the very club that’s hosting this Charity Fight Night.

Through running Turtle Dove, I’ve learned the power of resilience, persistence, and faith. I rarely feel afraid anymore. So I thought: "What could really challenge me?" This is it.

And if I’m doing it, I’m doing it for the survivors — the women who’ve had to fight for their lives and their children's safety.

💜 My Goal: £2,000 for a Future Without Fear

I’m aiming to raise £2,000 — the same amount Turtle Dove received in its early days, which helped us grow into something life-changing.

Now, that same sum can help Landlark do the same — by funding:

- Educational workshops

- Survivor-led projects

- Training for early intervention
