On May 20th I will take part in an 11 mile hike in the Surrey Hills just south of where Mum has recently moved to, to raise fund for the Royal Alfreds Care Home!

The Royal Alfred's Seafarers Society have been providing housing, residential and nursing care to former seafarers, their widows and dependants for more than 150 years. The residential and nursing care home, Belvedere House, together with the sheltered flats, is situated within the idyllic grounds of the Weston Acres Estate, near Banstead, Surrey. Only 25 minutes from me!

The flagship residential and nursing care home, Belvedere House, together with the sheltered flats, is situated within the idyllic grounds of the Weston Acres Estate, near the rural village of Banstead, Surrey. The leafy surroundings make the site ideal for care, including respite stay.

The home are able to offer help to a broad cross-section of seafarers, including those with backgrounds in the Royal and Merchant Navies, Women's Royal Naval Service, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and fishing fleets.

The care home ranked highly in the latest Care Quality Commission report, achieving a GOOD rating based on assessment in the five key areas of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The home were also named as 'Care Provider of the Year' at the Surrey Care Association Awards in 2016.

Mum is happy and very well looked after!
