Gobi Desert > Sydney - Kate is fundraising for Mental Health Support

Kate Wood is raising money for Sport in Mind

Sydney Marathon 2026 · 30 August 2026 ·

The Sydney Marathon started in 2001, just after the Sydney Olympic Games and aimed to promote health and fitness for Sydneysiders. Everyone is welcome to participate, whether you are a professional athlete or out for a fun walk with family and friend

Story

Seven months after having my second daughter, I’ll be running a 100km ultramarathon across the Gobi Desert. Not only a bucket list moment — this is also a warm up.

On June 24th, my friend Helen and I fly to Ulaanbaatar to take on a three-day ultra through one of the world’s most unforgiving landscapes. Between us: four children, multiple knee reconstructions, and zero plans to quit. Then in August, I run the Sydney Marathon.

Movement has been my lifeline. Through the hard seasons of life, getting my body moving has been how I’ve kept my mind afloat. But I know that’s a privilege — not everyone has the knowledge, the access, or the support to use sport as a tool for mental health.

That’s why I’m raising money for Sport in Mind — a charity that brings that access to people who need it most. If my miles can help someone else find what movement has given me, every step is worth it. Please donate if you can.
