A passionate team of IJM champions are undertaking a challenging six-day climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro, via the Rongai route, all to raise vital funds to help stop slavery and violence across the world.

Story

I'd like to share a story about a girl named Cassie*. A girl who was twelve years old and was promised the chance of a new life by someone she trusted. This was a lie, and Cassie was trapped for five years, along with other young women and children, subject to abhorrent abuse. The man she trusted was a leader of a cybersex trafficking ring.

When I first learnt about injustice in the world as a kid, like the injustice that Cassie faced, I remember the feeling of disbelief that this could ever happen in the world. It was from that moment on that I vowed to myself to chase justice in any way I can, to help contribute to making a world where all are free. And it is exactly this mission that International Justice Mission have undertaken for the last 25 years.

With the help of local authorities, IJM were able to pinpoint Cassie's location and bring her and six others to safety. Cassie is now a full-time events coordinator and is preparing for her future. You can watch the video of Cassie's case here.

Injustice in the world is one of the many heartbreaks humanity faces. But organisations like IJM envision a world where all are free from violence and slavery. Their breakthrough work, seeing reductions of up to 86% in trafficking in places where they have worked, suggests that this world may genuinely be possible.

I have had the privilege to be on placement at IJM this summer, meeting the incredible team and seeing from the inside how they make this work possible, and I have been blown away by their passion, drive and ethos. So, this is why I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in October to raise money for IJM's work.

The group and I will be meeting the IJM Kenya team to learn first-hand some of the incredible work they do in Kenya against Police Abuse of Power, before driving to Tanzania to start our 6-day trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Reaching Uhuru (meaning 'Freedom') Peak on Anti-Slavery Day on October 18th may be the hardest thing I have ever done, but to help in any way towards the amazing work that IJM does, I believe I can do it!

Join me in this mission, the mission to make the world a place where every child, woman and man is free from slavery and violence. Because, thanks to organisations like IJM, this world is possible.
