My First Ultramarathon - for Steve 🖤

Kate Bodman is raising money for Lighthouse Club
In memory of Steve Bodman

My FIRST Ultramarathon (50k) · 4 April 2026

Every working day in the UK two construction workers take their own life. We provide emotional, physical and financial support to the construction community and their families.

Story

Event: 4 April 2026 - Borderlands of Wales Ultramarathon (BOWUM) - 33 miles - 4300ft elevation.

In June 2025, my wonderful Father-in-Law passed away unexpectedly at work. A scaffolder by trade, he worked incredibly hard and with pride, and was a kind soul who would do anything for anyone - always making sure everyone was fed, watered and wanted for nothing 🖤

When he passed, I was in the midst of training for my first ultramarathon, but ended up injured and unable to run after trying to ignore my grief through running (unlike me, I know👀).

After months at the gym focusing on strength, I'm back running with added motivation to complete my first ultra for Steve - although he didn't really understand the appeal of running, he was super supportive - always asking how any races went and how the training was going... he was particularly impressed at my plan to complete 50k, so Steve, this one is for you!

In his memory, money is also being raised for the Lighthouse Club Charity, who are dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of construction workers and their families in a notoriously male dominated industry and was a charity chosen for his funeral donations.

Thank you so much 🖤
