Story
I am a Consultant Haematologist at Sheffield Children's Hospital and I treat children and young people with leukaemia and those undergoing stem cell transplants. In August 2026, I’ll embark on an extraordinary challenge: cycling 'The Route', where a team of female amateur cyclists will conquer every stage of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes, one day ahead of the professionals. It is a total of 1,175km with 18,795m of ascent, including an ascent of the iconic Mount Ventoux - one of the toughest climbs in France. This will be a huge challenge for me and training is underway in earnest.
This epic journey isn’t just about pushing physical limits—it’s about making a difference. Every pound raised will go directly to Cure Leukaemia. These funds will support the revolutionary ATICUS Network. This is a pioneering project to bring research studies straight to children having stem cell transplants and ensure that every child having a transplant in the UK, has access to the latest advances in medical care. I know this will make transplants safer and more effective, will bring hope to families across the UK and will save the lives of children who have no other chance of long term survival.
I am both excited and terrified by the challenge ahead. My training for the event is tough, there are early starts on the turbo trainer before work, and long days in the saddle at the weekend, but I am inspired every day by the bravery and resilience of our patients and their families.
Any support you can offer will make a real difference to those children and families facing blood cancer.
Thank you x
