Story

2024 H&PS Charity Challenge, Who Dares Wins!

Who Dares Wins 2024 is set against the stunning scenery of Penrith in the Lake District. This challenge, both mental and physical, will take us through less trodden paths, testing our teamwork and problem-solving skills at various checkpoints. I'm proud to be one of the over 100 Accenture colleagues taking part this year!

This year, we're championing a cause close to my heart: Unique (rarechromo.org), a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by rare chromosome and gene disorders, including my son Joshua. When he received his diagnosis the doctors couldn’t tell us what it meant let alone what it meant for his future. This is where Unique stepped in. Suddenly we weren’t alone, we had a list of parents whose children had similar deletions who just “got it”. We could share our hopes, fears, dreams, nightmares and advice with each other from all over the world. We had a disorder guide we could take to our pediatrician and not rest until all the at risk things for his type of chromosome deletion had been checked. We could also share our observations of Joshua to feed into vital research and help improve the disorder guides for future families.

Your sponsorship will directly support Unique's efforts, including the development of a new database to enhance research and understanding of these disorders. Their current database, which underpins everything they do, was created in the 1990s when there were only 1,192 registered families. It can no longer support the wealth of data Unique has access to nor the 130-150 new families who sign up every month following diagnosis.

Your generosity not only aids this vital research but also brings hope to thousands of families like mine.

Thank you
