Story
Hi, in July I'll be taking on the epic (and slightly crazy) walk of 20 miles from Cambridge to Huntingdon, aiming to raise money for St John Ambulance. I'm super nervous - the furthest I've ever walked is about 10 miles - but I'm sure with a lot of prep and your support I'll make it to mile 20! Any money you can spare will help motivate me towards that finish line and benefit so many people, so thank you.
Every week, I see the impact St John Ambulance has on the people we care for, their relatives, and the young people who attend our cadet units. I've been privelidged to be there for those needing immediate care, and see the massive impact St John First Aiders can have. As an Emergency Responder, I'm trained to be the difference when it matters and care for patients with everything from sore knees and blisters to asthma attacks and cardiac arrests. As a youth leader, I run weekly activity sessions for our cadets to teach them life-saving first aid and develop themselves personally. A highlight was recently seeing their reactions to being promoted to youth leaders, growing from a shy, timid teenager to a confident leader ready to take on the world. As a demonstrator, I help run our courses to teach the next generation of St John Ambulance volunteers in everthing from First Aid to Youth Skills to Event Management.
St John has been a huge part of my life for the last 8 years, making life long friends, developing skills and seeing people grow in confidence and ability. I've been honoured to help and encourage so many people, patients and members alike, and I hope to do so for many years to come! I owe my career in part to my volunteering with St John, and I'm hoping this fundraising will make sure St John can be there for others for many years to come.
