Story
In October 2024 my mum was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Less than 2 weeks later she was dead. For weeks beforehand we were aware she was acting differently but a combination of not being aware of the signs and symptoms and said symptoms being vague, meant it took time before we managed to get her to the doctor.
At the time I knew little about brain tumours and next to nothing about Glioblastoma. The prognosis was simply devastating and I do not think my mum ever quite understood what on earth was going on.
The prognosis is currently terrible and more funding into research and support is needed for Glioblastoma patients and everyone affected with a brain tumour.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.
They are working to find new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. If someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
I love swimming and it was my mum who first took me to learn to swim when very young. She was not a confident swimmer herself (but in later years went to the pool with me) but she recognised the importance of being able to swim and be safe in the water. Her sending me to swimming lessons instilled a lifelong love of the water and therefore, I have decided to do this sponsored swim in honour of her memory and importantly, to raise vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity to support all those affected.
