In early 2023, I was filled with excitement at the thought of becoming a nanny for the first time. But everything changed in February when I was diagnosed with breast cancer completely out of the blue, with no symptoms. Life quickly turned from joyful anticipation to facing surgery, treatment, and the unknown.

Breaking the news to my children, especially with my daughter who was 36 weeks pregnant, was incredibly hard. I had my first surgery on my son’s birthday, and just weeks later, we welcomed my beautiful grandson my light through it all.

Chemotherapy began in April, followed by radiotherapy. The treatment was tough physically and emotionally but my family’s love, and finding moments of laughter, carried me through.

Breast Cancer Now was a huge support. Their resources, forums, and social media helped me understand what was happening and explain it to others. I wanted to give something back.
