Story
I am embarking on a long held personal challenge, cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End, to raise vital funds for Glaucoma UK.
This ride has been something I’ve wanted to undertake for fifty years now and I will be cycling it solo with no assistance or back up, powered totally by myself. As I am a slow and not super fit cyclist this ride will take me all of September (and a few days into October). It’s taken months of planning with a steady increase in bike rides (length and frequency) over time. I could do with another few months training but hopefully I’ve matched my capabilities with my route plan. The hardest parts will be the hills ( with a laden bike) and getting up each day to cycle onwards. My route takes me to some new areas to explore rather than being the most direct line. It’ll be around 1,300 miles ( I’ve not finished my detailed daily route planning yet).

I’ve had glaucoma for about fifteen years now and despite treatment, lots of eye drops several times a day, two procedures and two eye surgeries (with two more surgeries to come in the next few years) my glaucoma is gradually progressing.
Over time I’ve had a lot of excellent information and advice and watched many very informative webinars from Glaucoma UK. That’s why I’ve decided to do this cycle to help raise awareness and funds for Glaucoma UK.to help them continue their very useful work supporting research and supporting people with glaucoma.
By supporting my ride, you help Glaucoma UK continue their essential work in campaigning for early diagnosis and providing life-changing support.
Your donation will make a real difference. Together, we can change the outlook for people living with glaucoma and bring help and hope where it’s needed most. Please join me in this journey by contributing towards my target of £1,300 ( to match the number of miles I expect to cycle). Every pound brings us closer to a future where no one loses their sight unnecessarily.
