English Channel Solo Swim · 10 July 2024

We at Eight Bells offer mental health and advocacy support to adults across West Berkshire who experience mental ill health. The charity runs a social group. three days a week, to help people with their mental well-being and overcome isolation and loneliness by meeting and connecting with others. We are a member-led charity so put our members at the heart of all we do. We provide friendship, support and a listening ear in a way that combines supporting and empowering members to lead independent and fulfilling lives. At the drop-in centre, members can pop along for a chat and a cuppa, play prize bingo or take part in training or the many activities that support mental well-being. Our members also organise days out and fundraising events.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My English Channel swim attempt has been a long time in the making! Over the years I've built up my swimming distance through shorter challenges, and although I didn't admit it at the time the EC has always been the goal!

The training has been demanding, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the journey and have learnt a lot about myself. Please consider donating to Eight Bells in recognition of all the early morning pool swims, teeth chattering outdoor swims and hours of supporting exercises!

With any luck around the 10th July I'll get the chance to attempt the swim across the channel - just me swimming alongside my pilot boat with on-board crew for, I guess, 15 - 20 hours - depending on the weather!

Eight Bells is a friendly, member-led, voluntary group, that provides friendship, support, and a listening ear to people experiencing mental health issues in West Berkshire. Particularly important is the administrative support they provide to help break the cycle of difficulty that mental health issues can bring - such as unemployment, low income and homelessness. Your donation would allow the drop in Centre to stay open for more days a week to provide support to more people.

All funds raised will be match funded by the local Greenham Trust!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
