Story
Hello we are Katie and Suzie, two great friends who have known each other for 45 years since secondary school (do the maths!) and we are finally taking on a long-held dream to walk the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain.
We’ve talked about this adventure for years, but with Katie’s dad’s recent cancer diagnosis and the incredible support he’s receiving from St John’s Hospice, the journey now means so much more.
St Johns Hospice is a charity close to many and we are looking to raise at least £4,000 between us to directly fund the great work they do every day.
We will be walking 116km of the pilgrimage over five days in October with both trepidation but also a whole lot of heart. Please support us if you can—every donation helps this wonderful hospice continue their vital work.
St John's provide care in the hospice on the inpatient ward and also through therapies, social work and bereavement support. They also provides care, compassion and support in people’s homes with Hospice at Home, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Therapists and Palliative Respite teams.
Their care will always be free to those who need it, but it isn’t cost free. It costs nearly £400 per hour to run the hospice with only around a third of this amount provided by local NHS funding. The remaining two thirds must be raised through events, community donations, grants and legacies.
So please support us, it will mean so much 🙏🙏
