Story

Hi, I'm Katie!
I'm 34 and I live in Plymouth. (You’ll usually find me on adventures with my husband and our Pokémon-obsessed 5 year old!)
On 19th April 2026, I'll be running the Manchester Marathon with my brother Edward!
I’m raising money for The Christie to fund research into innovative new treatments. Supporting their world-class clinical trials truly makes a difference in the lives of those living with cancer, and their loved ones.

My Story: Rare Cancer and The Christie
My life changed dramatically in October 2021, right after my boy's first birthday. I was diagnosed with a rare abdominal cancer called Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, which had spread from my appendix. That consultation felt like a grenade had detonated in my life. Each mummy milestone felt like my first and last. The future seemed uncertain, and every moment raw and precious.
As my disease was incredibly rare, I needed treatment at one of the few specialist centres in the country. For me, The Christie was like a lighthouse in a storm. Their compassion translated into hope, and in 2022, I underwent an operation nicknamed ‘The Mother of All Surgeries’. They removed 8 organs and washed-out my abdomen with hot chemotherapy. I am greatly blessed to have gained a second chance in life from The Christie's incredible expertise.

We need your help
Unfortunately, rare cancers are often misdiagnosed and under-researched. They have limited/ expensive treatment options, higher mortality rates and socially isolate those affected. Ironically, appendix cancer rates continue to rise significantly, especially amongst younger adults.
Therefore, your support is CRUCIAL for The Christie to understand rare cancers, develop equitable treatments and change the narrative for those unlucky enough to be diagnosed.
Please donate generously. You have the power to change lives.
Thank you xxx
