Marnie’s Story 🩷
Back in June 2026, our world changed when our beautiful Marnie was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer.
Since then, the Emily Kent Unit (EKU) at Gloucester Royal Hospital has become such an amazing support hub for us as a family. Whilst her chemotherapy has been at Bristol Children’s, Gloucester Oncology team have continued to support her and us throughout her journey so far. The support they have given Marnie, and us as a family, has been incredible.
A special mention goes to the play specialists, who Marnie absolutely adores. They have helped make scary appointments like her central line insertion, dressing changes and scans feel so much less frightening through play, distraction and lots of giggles! Without this injection of positivity, her journey would look remarkably different with much less smiles and far more reluctance.
The family support worker and psychiatrist have also been there for me and James from the very day Marnie was diagnosed. Their support has meant more to us than we can put into words.
Whilst Marnie’s journey continues, it’s not over yet. We regularly see first-hand just how much the EKU team does for children and their families, and we want to give something back to ensure they can remain the backbone of support for families unfortunate enough to share our experience.
So we’re raising money for the Pied Piper Appeal to help support the amazing work of the EKU and make things a little easier for families going through what we are.
If you can donate, no matter how big or small, we would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you for supporting Marnie and helping us give something back to the incredible team who have supported us through some of the hardest days of our lives. 🩷
