Story
I can’t quite believe I’m saying this but in 2026 I’ll be running the London Marathon for a charity extremely close to my heart, Scoliosis Support & Research!! I am over the moon and honoured to have been given a place to do something I thought was unachievable for me.
I was diagnosed with Scoliosis when I was 8 years old, which turned so severe I had to have an 11 hour operation to fuse my spine top to bottom at 12 years old. From that point on I was always told what I couldn’t do with my new body, and I feel like I need to prove to myself that’s not true, I can do things everyone else can it just might look a little different!
Scoliosis is more than just a curvature of the spine, it affects your breathing, heart, lungs, head & neck, walking, mobility, leaves you with chronic pain and so much more.
The impact that this diagnosis and treatment had on my mental health and on my families was something none of us were prepared for or had been told was a possibility. I was severely depressed throughout high school, pumped with so much medication I could barely stay awake in lessons. There were times I didn’t see the point in carrying on. I wish more than anything I could go back to that girl and tell her everything was going to be alright. She NEVER would have believed me if I told her we were running the London Marathon for a Scoliosis charity. I’m doing this for her and for others like her to help spread awareness, knowledge and understanding.
Thank you so much for anything you can give/share!
