Story
This year, to mark the 10-year anniversary of my mum’s passing, I’ve been lucky enough to secure a place on the Big Nacoa Walk – Ullswater Challenge in her memory. On 2nd May, I’ll be walking 21 miles, with 650 metres of ascent, to raise vital funds for Nacoa (The National Association for Children of Alcoholics)
Nacoa is a wonderful charity, and one I believe could have supported both me and my sister while growing up. 1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents’ drinking, and Nacoa provides crucial support, advice, and understanding to children and families impacted by parental alcohol dependency.
Despite her struggles, my mum tried to be the best parent she could, and my sister and I hold many happy memories of her. She faced significant mental health challenges and turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism, which sadly became something she depended on. This walk is my way of honouring her memory, while helping ensure that other children don’t have to face similar experiences without support.
This challenge means a lot to me and I would be incredibly grateful for any support you’re able to give. Every pound raised will go directly to Nacoa, helping them continue their invaluable work with children and families across the UK.
Thank you ❤️
