My name is Katie, I'm 23 years old and I suffer from brittle asthma which is a life threatening type of asthma. Around 6 years ago my asthma went from being stable to life threatening in a very short space of time and it completely changed my life. I went from working 3 jobs, one being on a farm(!), teaching and doing dance, gymnastics and running almost every day to being in the back of ambulances, taken to resus and admitted to hospital with only days between admissions, almost losing my life on many occasions. I thought my life had truly come to an end when it should have been just beginning and was forced to drop out of college 3 times before realising that my dream to become a paediatric nurse was going to be impossible.

I am now on a biological injection called Tezepelumab and since starting it, I have only been admitted to the hospital 2 or 3 times rather than what would have been closer to 10 admissions by now, I have also been able to do a little bit of walking, which is incredible considering the last few years. I am slowly but surely getting some of my life back and I am so grateful. So, as May is asthma awareness month, I plan on challenging myself to walk 31km in 31 days, I know this may not sound like much but for me it's HUGE!

Not many people understand the severity of asthma and how life changing this condition can be, so my goal is to raise as much awareness as possible, as well as some money to help support others like me, and the development of more life changing treatments options!
