A wonderful bunch of people are going to dress up like festive muppets and run (lets face it, walk) 2 miles to hopefully raise a cosy amount for the Children's Hospice South West.

Maya was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart (half a working heart). She had her first open heart surgery at 10 days, her second at 2 months, her third at 8 months and her fourth the day before her 5th Birthday.

Because of the strain this condition puts on her body she has developed Protein Losing Enteropathy, which affects her lymphatic and digestive systems. The medicines used to help PLE have caused her body to stop making cortisol, so she also lives with an adrenal insufficiency and is steroid dependant.

These things, while obviously really crappy, aren't all who she is. Maya is stubborn, bossy, beautiful, strong willed, hilarious, demanding, cheeky, and not at all patient. She loves lego, reading, colouring, mermaids, fairies, butterfly's and snuggles while she watches a film. She's the bravest person I know and I am beyond thankful for every day we get to spend together.

It took a while for me to get my head around the word "hospice", and what that means for my girls. What we've found though is a place full of warmth, laughter, freedom and memories. This place & the people who work there have made our lives easier by helping us have fun together, supporting both the girls in every possible way. When it's a crappy day and things feel a bit hopeless, remembering the fun is everything.
