Story

Sunnyside is excited to be joining churches across the country again in hosting the Tearfund Big Quiz Night 2023. This year’s quiz will be in Church on Saturday 14th October 2023, 7.30pm for 7.45pm start, with Katie RS returning for a fifth year as Quizmaster. Since 2019, we've raised over £2,600 for Tearfund through the quizzes. Last year our quizzers were part of 334 churches and 13,386 quizzers raising a whooping £60,000!!

Will 51% (Hilary K, Steven K, Jane W, Nick W, John K, Pam D, Lucy W and Ruth C) retain their top spot and who will take home the wooden spoon?!

There will be eight rounds and there are some interesting round names this year! – 2022 Quiz, Arts and Culture, A Link to the Past, Nature Myth-Busters, Flags of the World, General Knowledge: Are you a cat or dog person?, Food and Drink, and A Sporting Choice. A few hints there if you wanted to do some homework! Each round has six questions.

Please bring your own drinks and nibbles (including vessels/bowls to put them in) and take any recycling home. We will have hot drinks and cakes available for a cash donation or can donate extra online.

Please talk to your church family and friends about putting together teams of up to eight (sorry no more as it becomes unfair). Participants don’t have to be Sunnysiders. It would be fabulous to get a wide range of attendees – from our congregation, to hall users, to local businesses and The Rising Sun and The Boat regulars, to parish roads WhatsApp groups, and to neighbours and friends! I know some folks are planning to come as a house group, the Gardeners are hopefully coming as at least one team, and we should have friends from other Berkhamsted Churches joining us. Solo or smaller numbers welcome and we can put folks together if needed. Samson was insistent he attends again so do consider bringing similar age and above children too – there are normally some questions the younger generations can answer and help the older ones with! There will be sign-up sheets in Church from Sunday 17th September but ideally if you are thinking of coming, please use this online form: https://forms.gle/uQRZxJQbphUXXNy19

In previous years Tearfund have suggested a donation of £5 per person. Appreciating that cost of living has increased please consider your own individual circumstances as to what to donate, whether you feel you are able to give more, or indeed please do not let entry donation be a limiting factor as we’d love everyone to feel able to come. Please donate directly to this page. We will have another game of heads or tails so bring your pound coins. Sunnysiders and friends who aren’t able to join the quiz please do feel free to donate as well!

We’ll have had Community Cafe in Church earlier in the day so I shouldn’t need help setting up but as previous years hopefully many hands mean light work at the end.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me. Look forward to quizzing again with you all…Katie
