Story
I am raising money for the Freya Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising awareness for the condition Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency.
Recently, a family friend's daughter was diagnosed with PDH, a rare and progressive genetic condition that currently has no cure, with only a few hundred cases diagnosed worldwide.
PDH is a mitochondrial disease, meaning that cells struggle to produce enough energy. Those affected often experience a combination of symptoms including lactic acidosis, delayed development of mental abilities and motor skills, seizures, weak muscle tone, poor coordination, difficulty walking, brain structure abnormalities, and reduced life expectancy.
PDH deficiency impacts every aspect of her development and growth; however, she remains an incredibly joyful child who loves making friends, singing loudly, and bringing laughter to those around her.
The Freya Foundation is the UK's only charity solely focused on supporting individuals affected by PDH deficiency. They work tirelessly to raise awareness, support families in need, collaborate with medical professionals to deepen understanding of the condition, and fund vital research projects aimed at finding solutions.
I am participating in the Bath Half Marathon on March 16th, 2025 to help raise funds for this important cause. My target is £500. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by this condition. Please consider donating today to help us continue this crucial work.
