Story

On 27th June 2026 - I’m Walking for Winnie!

I’ll be travelling the return journey pier to pier of 14 miles for Wish for Winnie between Clacton and Walton.

My cousins 9 year old daughter Winnie was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) and Autism. Her condition is extremely severe. She requires full‑time care from people who understand both her physical needs and her emotional world. She is a full‑time wheelchair user and needs assistance with all mobility.

Over her lifetime so far she has endured hundreds of fractures, and even the smallest movement can be dangerous — for example, a sneeze can break a rib. She has also undergone 12 operations all by the tender age of 9. All of which have long hospital stays and long home recoveries.

She is a truly remarkable young girl, who despite her daily challenges, remains excited and interested in the world around her. Often falling in love with butterflies, lady birds or telling you all about just about anything that has peaked her interest. She adores reading and her musical dad has even inspired a love of music in her so she has been known to sing you a song or two!

Im raising funds to help feed into a donation pot hoping to raise **£50,000** . This is to help with Winnie’s ongoing medical needs and to adapt the family home so it can fully support her long‑term independence. In 2026, this means creating downstairs living for Winnie: a new ground floor bedroom, a fully adapted wet room, and the specialist equipment needed for washing, lifting, and daily care.

Winnies most recent surgeries proved that continuing to try and transport Winnie up and down between the floors of their home, or to be able to safely clean her are becoming impossible. The adaptations to their home are essential in Winnie’s daily comfort and basic needs as she continues to grow.

Winnie’s Daily Reality:

Winnie requires full‑time care from people who understand both her physical needs and her emotional world. She is a full‑time wheelchair user and needs assistance with all mobility.

In 2022, Winnie, her mum Emma, dad Steve, and sister Haze moved into a home with the potential to be adapted for her future needs. The family spend much of their time at home, so creating a safe, accessible space is vital.

Around the same time, they learned that the treatment Winnie had received for five years was not improving her bone strength, making the need for a supportive environment even more urgent.

Her January 2023 operation led to a long recovery, keeping her out of school for months and placing emotional and financial strain on the family. Yet Winnie continues to make progress and surprises everyone with her determination.

“Winnie is an intelligent, creative little girl who knows exactly what she likes. We want to give her every opportunity in life, just like any parent would. That’s why we work so hard to fundraise for her, and we’re grateful to anyone who supports her journey.”

Future fundraising will help support:

- Essential home adaptations

- Specialist equipment

- Ongoing medical needs

- Resources that support Winnie’s comfort, development, and independence
