Story
If you know me, you'll know I have a huge fear of heights. However, on the 15th July, I'll be abseiling down the Liverpool Cathedral to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Charity. Wish me luck!
Alder Hey is a specialist children's hospital in Liverpool; they are pioneering– both for research and care – and are a huge part of Liverpool's community. I have chosen to raise money for the new surgical NICU.
In Liverpool, babies are born at Liverpool Women's Hospital, but are transferred by ambulance to Alder Hey if they need surgery, which can be extremely dangerous at their most vulnerable time. This unit has been designed so that babies can receive specialist surgical care without being transferred between the two hospitals. Each room has an adjoining family room, which is the first of its kind in the UK – and has been proven to hugely improve health outcomes for babies.
Another example of Alder Hey's forward-thinking is their Snowdrop Suite which supports bereaved families in their most difficult and heart-breaking times. This suite was purpose built and was the first in the country at the time. It allows families to visit their children after they have passed and provides ongoing support for as long as is needed.
Any donations will go towards the surgical NICU at Alder Hey – anything you can spare will be HUGELY appreciated. Thank you so much!
PS – a video of me screaming the whole way down the abseil will be due soon…
