Encephalitis International is the only non-profit of any size anywhere in the world providing direct support and information to people affected by encephalitis (brain inflammation); raising awareness of the condition; and driving research to improve diagnoses, treatments and outcomes.

Story

This charity has become something close to my… head - and heart!

On Saturday 14th September 2024, I was rushed to ICU with a brain infection (encephalitis), after almost three months of strange neurological symptoms. Tests later confirmed that the encephalitis was caused by undetected Lyme Disease.

Due to the quick thinking of my friends, husband and of course the amazing work from the NHS, I managed to come away rather unscathed. Thank you to all who helped save me and my noggin!

But I’m one of the lucky ones, as encephalitis often costs lives or results in life-long brain injuries. So it’s my ‘survivor’s pledge’ to raise awareness and funds.

On Saturday 13th September, my amazing husband and I are taking part in the Sponsored 25km Thames Trek to raise funds for Encephalitis International. It’s *essentially* a year to the time I was hospitalised - perfect timing!

We would be so grateful if you could pledge any possible funds to help in our quest for supporting Encephalitis research. The more funds that are raised - the more lives can be saved.

More information on Encephalitis:

Worldwide, three people are diagnosed with encephalitis (brain inflammation) every minute. Caused by infection or autoimmune diseases, it can affect anyone. It is an acutely serious condition with high mortality rates, leaving many who do survive with an acquired brain injury - potentially affecting them physically and/or affecting their memory, thinking and personality for the rest of their lives.

Encephalitis International's mission is rebuilding futures of those affected: saving lives, accelerating awareness and driving research.
