Story
As anyone who knows me at all well will know, three of my great passions in life are cricket, health and cycling. In September this year, I will be combining the first two of these: travelling to Rwanda for two weeks with Cricket Without Boundaries, which does amazing work bringing cricket and health information (about HIV and gender equity) to schoolkids in Sub-Saharan Africa. I'll be paying my own flights etc., but CWB asks us all to raise about £1,000 for the equipment and to support the permanent on-the-ground staff in Rwanda (and to raise the charity's profile, of course!).
So to get this money together, I'm bringing in my third passion: cycling. In late June I cycled on my most challenging Camino to date - 750km and soooo much climbing - across northern Spain. The first half was the Camino Olvidado - the forgotten Way - and the clue is in the name: very few pilgrims! The second half was the Camino Invierno - the winter Way - which again is not a popular route, but very beautiful. (OK, I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but I survived...)
You can read my blog of the trip here: https://katycamino.wordpress.com/category/camino-olvidado-and-invierno-2023/
I and CWB would be so grateful for any pennies you can throw in our direction. And many of the young women in the Rwandan U19 national team that recently took part in the U19 Cricket World Cup had their very first introduction to the game through CWB: its benefits are myriad!
