Katy's fundraiser for Sarcoma UK

24 Hour DJ Livestream · 4 January 2025
On the 8th of March 2024 my best friend, Catty Holden was sadly diagnosed with a rare bone sarcoma (cancer) in her left arm. Over this year she has endured 15 rounds of high intensity chemotherapy and 2 major surgeries, including a full shoulder and partial arm metal replacement.
Sarcoma is very rare, making up less than 2% of all cancers diagnosed in the UK each year (around 5000 cases). Due to it’s rarity sarcoma is often referred to as the ‘loneliest cancer’.
Catty was diagnosed with a type of osteosarcoma, which most commonly affects people between the ages of 10 and 30.
The charity, Sarcoma UK drive awareness of sarcoma cancer, find answers through funding research, provide information and support to anyone affected by this horrible disease. They campaign for better treatments and improving standards of care.
On Thursday the 9th of January I’m going to be playing a 24 hour DJ set that will be live streamed on a number of different platforms, to raise money & awareness for my best friend Cat. After everything she has endured over this year I wanted to set myself a challenge whilst being able to raise awareness and money, so therefore I’ll be playing constantly from 8am on the Saturday and finishing at 8am on the Sunday morning.
A word from Cat … “Nothing prepares you to hear the words ‘it’s cancer’ especially at the age of 23, when you believe you have your whole life ahead of you. My whole world fell apart and I wondered, if and how I would make it through. Sometimes, it takes over a year for a diagnosis and so often sarcoma is misdiagnosed. The consequences of this can be catastrophic, with advancement of the cancer or even necessary amputation.
Raising this money for Sarcoma UK will help with the research and awareness around bone sarcomas, and support people emotionally and practically, who will hear the devastating news of this diagnosis.”
All donations, however big or small are greatly appreciated and will all contribute to making a big difference to people who are sadly affected by this horrible disease. On behalf of Catty & her family - THANK YOU ❤️
