I'm running a Tough Mudder in memory of our beautiful daughter, Alma.

In August 2020, our perfect baby girl, Alma died during her delivery before we'd even had a chance to welcome her into the world. We never got to see her open her eyes, smile, or hold her in the newborn scrunch that every parent wants to last forever.

She was perfect and losing her was totally unexpected. My pregnancy was textbook and labour was following suit until the very end when she suffered shoulder dystocia. After 19 terrifying minutes, she was delivered but devastatingly, there was no heartbeat and she couldn't be saved.

Our world had completely fallen apart in 19 minutes. My partner had witnessed the whole thing and I couldn’t see how he or I would ever be able to come to terms with what had happened.

The overwhelming feeling of guilt was eating me up from the second I found out she had died, and I knew I would need to seek help. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to process what had happened to us without a professional.

I found The Haven after being referred by my GP to a mental health charity who then referred me to them. I had an initial conversation with an advisor and knew straight away that they would be able to help me work through our loss. I will forever be grateful for all of their help and I truly believe that they saved me. I'm raising money so that they can continue to support families through all of the complications that can arise during pregnancy and beyond.
