Help Katy & Dan raise funds for the Prince of Wales Hospice

Gary Hollingworth is raising money for The Matthew22 Fund
Matthew22 issues grants to registered charitable organisations in memory of Matthew Ben Hollingworth, who passed from bone cancer in 2022 at the age of 22. We hope our funding will help others not have to endure the suffering we feel on a daily basis. Forward Through Adversity !

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

“After spending the beginning of September in hospital with a bowel blockage I was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer. I have growths in my sigmoid colon which caused the blockage, growths on each ovary and shadowing of cancer around my peritoneal cavity. I was referred for chemo and major surgery at The Christie Cancer Centre in Manchester.

I was discharged home for 10 days before I had debilitating back pain and had to have an ambulance come and take me back to hospital where I had an MRI scan which showed I had cancer deposits within my vertebrae which we assumed had probably been there since the first diagnosis.

Whilst in hospital I began spiking fevers and was eventually treated for infections and as if I had sepsis even though they could never culture anything from the blood cultures they took. One doctor thought I might have had a blood clot in my lung as my sats were dropping with oxygen. I was eventually sent for an abdominal CT scan with contrast which ruled out the blood clot but did find that the ovarian masses were bigger and necrotic and there were now fractures in parts of my spine. This meant there was no longer anything they could do for treatment.

I'm now in a lovely hospice managing my pain and keeping me comfortable until the time comes”.

We would like to raise funds for the Prince of Wales Hospice through Matthew22, to give something back for the care they are giving.
