Story
Education in this country isn't fair. Pupils from low-income backgrounds are not less able than their more affluent peers, however they often lack the resources and tools that help them to achieve. With proven impact, Action Tutoring has been supporting disadvantaged school pupils for over a decade, providing them with high-quality maths and English tuition by harnessing the power of brilliant volunteer tutors to help them succeed. Our vision is a world in which no child's life chances are limited by their socio-economic background.
Action Tutoring helps pupils achieve in both their SATs and GCSEs, which is not only crucial for opening access to future opportunities, but has an impact on potential lifetime earnings, with Department for Education research indicating that achieving 5 'good' GCSEs (including English and maths) can add £80,000 to an individual's earnings across the course of their life, compared to those without such qualifications. Public first has also recently found that, for every £1 spent on tutoring, there is a return to the economy of £6.58. In total, it is estimated that pupils who achieve higher grades as a result of tutoring will boost the UK's economy by £4.34 billion. Crucially, not achieving SATs and GCSEs puts young people at risk of becoming classed as NEET (not in education, employment or training) with new evidence showing that disadvantaged young people are 50% more likely to be out of education, employment or training upon leaving school than their peers. This doesn't just impact the individuals, but the wider economy, with each 'NEET' individual estimated to cost the economy £120,000 across the course of their lifetime.
Thank you for helping me support Action Tutoring in unlocking the infinite potential of disadvantaged young people!
