Story
My cousin Lisa found out in 2013 that one of her twin boys, Felix, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
DMD affects 1 in 3500 boys. It is a progressive muscle wasting disorder and typically by age 12 many boys are confined to a wheelchair. The disease affects their heart and lungs and this usually results in premature death in their 20s.
Lisa and other members of her family and friends have been fundraising for many years, raising thousands of pounds to help other families with DMD.
Duchenne UK was founded by two mothers whose sons were diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in 2011. Their work involves four key areas: funding ground-breaking medical research, accelerating access to treatments, improving lives through technology, and ensuring everyone in the DMD community is given the care and support they need.
This year I have signed up to The Duchenne Dash, this is a Duchenne UK's biggest and most challenging fundraising event of the year and has raised more than £9 million for Duchenne muscular dystrophy research (DMD).
I will cycle from London to Paris, a distance of 300km, in less than 24 hours.
Please help me raise money for this important cause.
