I am fundraising for ActionAid's Gaza Crisis appeal and for the emergency response work in Gaza following the alarming escalation of violence in the region. It is truly horrific to witness such abhorrent cruelty unfold and I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone to raise money to support those who truly need it.

ActionAid is working with partners in Gaza who are doing their utmost to provide food and relief items to families that they can reach, but access to supplies is limited and transportation to the shelters is challenging and dangerous for those who are working on the ground. ActionAid are prepared to respond, ensuring the well-being of thousands who are without access to food, water, or shelter, while also prioritising the safety and protection of women and girls.

Women and girls face an even more unique challenge in war-torn areas. More than 150,000 pregnant and lactating women in the Gaza Strip can't access essential services and face issues such as infection and malnutrition. 37 mothers are killed every hour, leaving thousands of children without the support they need growing up.

It is also essential for the ability of women and girls to manage their menstrual hygiene with dignity and safety. Without access to sanitary products, water, toilets and privacy women are left embarrassed, humiliated and at risk of health complications - with reports some women have used tent scraps in a shortage of sanitary products.

On a personal note, a half marathon is a new challenge for me and I am a little bit terrified I've overestimated my ability! But here we are and so the training begins... And no matter what I will have the extra drive behind me that I am running for such an important cause.
