Run the London, Brighton or Manchester Marathon for Scoliosis Support & Research in 2026.

Story

In April I am going to be running the London Marathon for the Scoliosis Support and Research Foundation- a charity that helped my family during one of the most challenging times in our lives. This year marks 21 years since I had two major operations to correct my scoliosis- a condition that causes the spine to curve abnormally and can cause injury to your heart and lungs.

At the time of diagnosis I was training as an associate of the Royal Ballet School where my teachers noticed me having difficulties holding my posture in certain steps. I went to see their physio and after seeing a specialist I was diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis.

Together with my family, physios, teachers and surgeons we decided to delay surgery for as long as we could so that I could keep dancing- doing what I loved for as long as possible. Finally, I had two eight hour operations where my spine was straightened with Titanium rods and screws.

Going from being so physically active to learning to walk again was both a physical but mental struggle. I vividly remember not being able to go home until I could walk up three stairs. When I was allowed home I had to wear a full body brace for 6 months and slowly worked my way to having mobility, confidence and strength.

I haven't always talked openly about my scoliosis but without sounding cliche I've learnt as I've got older this experience has taught me so much and I'm proud of my scars.

I have been told in the past that doing the London Marathon is probably not the best idea but I know that I can do it and who I'm doing it for-

- my family who were with my every step of the way and who made countless sacrifices as I was growing up.

- for every young person growing up to show life doesn't end with Scoliosis surgery.

- for the Scoliosis Research society who support many people and who make a lasting difference.

Let's show the world it's ok to be a little wonky! 💪🏻 Please donate to this amazing charity.
