CLDF and the British Liver Trust have merged - we are the only UK charity for all liver conditions. We support parents, children, young people and adults affected, through tailored support and information, and we campaign for improved early detection and better treatment and care.

Story

Most of my closest friends and family are aware that over the past 12 months, our very loved, close friends welcomed into the world a gorgeous little girl called Rhea.. unbeknownst to anyone including her parents, Rhea was born with Biliary Atresia, if you’re unsure what that is let me explain. Biliary atresia (BA) is a rare, serious liver disease that affects infants, occurring when bile ducts are blocked or abnormally narrow. Bile ducts carry bile, a digestive fluid, from the liver to the gallbladder and small intestine. In BA, bile builds up in the liver, damaging it and leading to scarring, cirrhosis, and loss of liver function. Symptoms include persistent jaundice, clay-colored stools, and hepatomegaly, in short, this means Rhea doesn’t have a fully functioning liver and as some point throughout her life, she will need a liver transplant.

Rhea, literally lights up the room as soon as she walks in, she is the definition of a fighter, she is strong and is doing incredibly well after a life altering operation which took place last year.

After witnessing first hand how this has impacted Rhea and her parents & seeing other children at Birmingham Children's Hospital face liver problems, I wanted to raise money for a cause that helps children face this time, feeling less alone.

The British Liver Trust and Children’s Liver Disease Foundation have merged. They are the only UK charity for children, young people and adults affected by all liver conditions.

Their helpline and support services help thousands of people every year, and they campaign to raise awareness of all liver diseases.

Thank you for your support, and please don’t forget to Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer.
