Story
This year as part of the Paediatric Society at KCL we have chosen to support two charities close to our hearts, Evelina London Children's charity and Children with Caner UK.
Children with cancer UK is the leading childhood cancer charity in the UK, with a mission to fund life-saving research and supporting families facing childhood cancer. Every day, around 10 children and young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer, and Children with cancer UK works by helping to fund specialist research meaning 8 out of 10 young cancer patients can now receive successful treatment, as well as helping to develop safer, more effective and less toxic treatments and funding crucial research in childhood cancer. Importantly, they also provide immense support for families going through childhood cancer like providing family accommodation, financial support, medical equipment and support services.
Their mission is a world where every child and young person survives cancer. For 35 years, Children with Cancer UK has funded much needed research into the causes of childhood cancers, and the development of better, kinder treatments as well as funding initiatives that support children and their families through cancer treatment and beyond. Their work has contributed significantly to a marked increase in childhood cancer survival rates and improved quality of life for patients.
This year we hope to support both of our chosen charities in their crucial work by running a series of events throughout the year to have fun and most importantly raise money for these important causes!
