Story
We're fundraising to support Age UK Hull and East Yorkshire's Bee Lady Day. This is an annual event celebrating the amazing Jean Bishop, Hull's Bee Lady. Jean wasn’t just a familiar face—she was a force of kindness and generosity, tirelessly collecting donations for Age UK Hull and East Yorkshire, who help older people live with dignity and support.
About Jean -
For over three decades, a small but mighty figure dressed in a bright yellow and black bee costume buzzed through the streets of Hull. Her name was Jean Bishop, but to the people of Hull and East Yorkshire, she was fondly known as "The Bee Lady."
With her infectious smile and unwavering dedication, she raised an incredible £124,000, helping countless older people live with dignity and support.
Her incredible efforts did not go unnoticed!
In 2013, Jean won the Pride of Britain Award for Fundraiser of the Year and in 2012 she carried the Olympic flame through Hull.
2017 saw her receive "Freedom of the City" and was even awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year's Honours.
At the age of 94 she hit £100,000 raised, and when asked what was next she said, “Of course, being 94, it does take it out of me a bit, but I won’t let it stop me,”
