Story
My son Thomas is in Year 3 at Uplands Primary School. This week he’s been off school after struggling with the heat in the classroom, which led him to the idea of trying to help make things a bit more comfortable for everyone.
As many of our children have experienced, classrooms at Uplands can become extremely hot during warmer weather. Over the last week, pupils and staff have been doing their best in increasingly difficult conditions, but many rooms simply don’t have adequate cooling.
Thomas and I are launching this fundraiser to support the Uplands School Association in raising money for fans and, where possible, air conditioning units for classrooms across the school. These improvements would make a real difference to the comfort, wellbeing and concentration of both children and staff.
When classrooms become too hot, children can struggle to focus, become tired more quickly, and find it harder to enjoy learning. Staff are also working in these conditions while continuing to teach and care for the children as best they can.
We are asking families, local businesses and members of the community to contribute whatever they can. No donation is too small — every pound brings us closer to cooler, more comfortable classrooms.
All funds raised will go directly towards cooling equipment for the school. If we exceed our target, additional funds will be used to provide further cooling solutions where they are most needed.
Please consider donating and sharing this page with friends, family and local community groups. Together, we can make a real difference for the children and staff at Uplands Primary School.
