Story
This September 14th, I will complete the Mighty Stride at Edinburgh Kilt Walk. A 32km walk in aid of the wonderful Vine Trust!
I have seen the amazing work that they do firsthand, alongside their partner charity TAWREF (Tanzania Women's Research Foundation) based in Moshi Tanzania. But I will let the stories speak for themselves.

This is a photo taken 3 weeks ago - of one of three houses that our school were able to fundraise for. In just under a month a young mother and her 3 young boys (who were all abandoned by their father after the mother's HIV diagnosis) will recieve this home, and their lives will be changed forever.
Today, the family of four live in a small house built on a muddy hillside approx one hour from Moshi. The house is made mostly of sticks and leaks heavily, it cannot and does not keep them warm or sheltered. Between the four of them they have only 2 small rooms and 2 small beds (both of which can hardly be described as rooms/beds). They often go without food. Despite the young mothers' hard work to try and make ends meet - with 3 young boys all under 10 years old - every day is a struggle.
Thanks to fundraising, Vinetrust and TAWREF (who will continue to monitor and support them long after the house is built) their lives will be forever changed.
For every £1 you donate, £1.50 goes towards helping families just like them. We live such privileged lives in this country, but thankfully that means we are in a position to bring about real change in people's lives.
If you need further illustration of how impactful your help can be, then take it from this example. A two year old boy who in week one of our trip never smiled once and wouldn't come near any of us or leave his mother's side - by the end of week 2 that same little boy was in my arms smiling, eating chocolate biscuits and blowing bubbles. That same little boy high-fived me and waved me goodbye as we left our work-site.
The median annual salary in Tanzania equates to approx. 4,800,000 TZ shillings. In pounds sterling that is approximately £1370. And many families will not have even half of that amount. The target for this page is £1500, thanks to the 50% top up recieved on all funds raised through the kiltwalk, the Vine Trust would recieve £2,250.
£1,500 is a target, not a limit. Every last penny counts!
