Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Every year for the last eleven years me, my family and close friends have organized fundraising events in memory of our son/brother/close friend Kristopher Dunn. Thanks to the support from generous companies like yourself, we have raised over £38,500 for different charities that help children and young people get the most out of their life even if it is ending sooner than expected. Our main charity we raise money for is when you wish upon a star, over the past 6 years we have raised over £24,000. When you wish upon a star grant wishes for seriously ill children and young people with life threatening illnesses, they allow the family to put their child’s illness and treatment on hold whilst having fun making memories. This could be from a trip to Disneyland, Lapland, meeting a famous role model, meeting youtubers, or having the latest game.
Kristopher was a well-liked young man who liked football and ice hockey, he was a big Nottingham panthers' fan from the age of 2. Just before his 16th birthday he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in 2012. Although hearing this news wasn’t great, he kept a smile on his face, love in his heart and was constantly amazing people with his bravery and thoughts. He continued attending school and passing exams alongside having 8 months of chemotherapy. He even hosted a fundraising day for the ward he was in at the queen's medical hospital in Nottingham. After that treatment had finished and we were told that it wasn’t working he decided to learn how to drive, passing his test the first time with ease.
When he was about 17 and a half the pain in his leg was beginning to be a problem, so he wanted to have a serious discussion with the doctors about having his right leg amputated above the knee and they agreed that it would be for the best. He went through with the surgery and within days of him having it done against medical advice he was up on his crutches, and within a couple of weeks he was out driving with his mates clocking up nearly 22,000 miles in the space of just 10 months. Nothing held him back and he lived his life to the fullest and he kept going, never stopping nor complaining, he was always surprising doctors. This was until it finally caught up to him and he peacefully passed away on the 8th of October 2014 aged 18 and a half, he was surrounded by friends and family who all loved him. We know that he would be happy that we are helping others in his name.
