Story
Dear All
To those who encouraged, and provided me with much support for sponsorship for Cure Leukaemia, for riding all stages of the Tour France in 2022, thank you!
I think we came to the conclusion that riding the Tour with Tour 21 was a once in a lifetime special event, and any other event wouldn't come close.
I applied (for which I have Coach Hand to blame) for the Transcontinental Race 2023 'TCRno9', with a reasonable expectation to be unsuccessful; Out of 800+ applicants, 250 or so are successful. A part of me, was really hoping I wasn't going to be accepted. I was offered a place.
I've debated if this was the right thing to do, or indeed for me. It only takes a few prompts to realise, that life is short. I accepted.
I hope you will support me on my journey and help me raise monies for Cure Leukaemia. They do incredible work, and much needed funds are now crucial to support life saving trials. No child should suffer or die from blood cancer.
On 23 July 2023, all being well, I will be at the start line in Geraardbergen , Belgium. I'm really not sure how far I will go, but will do what I can. The word 'Race' is daunting in itself, as we will navigate unsupported over 4000km via 4no Control Points, Italy, Slovenia, Albania and with a finish in Greece.
Welcome to the ninth edition of the Transcontinental Race. Starting once again on Flandrien cobbles, this year’s route guides our intrepid, self-supported riders south and east; across Alpine passes, through sheer gorges and along ancient roads, finally coming to rest on the edge of Europe where the warm waters of the Aegean Sea await to soothe the tired minds and aching muscles of the finishers of TCRNo9.Those who come looking for adventure will find it! We welcome all riders intending to race in the spirit of camaraderie, equal opportunity and self-reliance. This Race offers the chance to pit mind, body and spirit against thousands of miles of Europe’s most beautiful, remote, inspiring, and challenging roads and tracks. At the fulcrum of the Race, where a critical moment is enough to upset the finest balance between the heights of elation and the depths of despair, riders will discover the strength of their resolve and test the limits of their self-belief. As always, this Race rewards the most prepared; the strongest legs will only prevail in the presence of the sharpest wit.
HELP ME GET TO GREECE !
Cure Leukaemia helps blood cancer patients to access pioneering drug and transplant treatments by funding a network of specialist research nurses across the UK. Without these nurses, to ensure patients are monitored and cared for, clinical trials of these new treatments would not run and patients, that have exhausted standard treatment options, would miss out on potentially lifesaving therapies. Every penny raised for Cure Leukaemia helps save lives and also hastens global progress towards the eradication of all forms of blood cancer.
Any donation, whatsoever, is always gratefully appreciated.
Thank you again
Keith
