kelly bessey is raising money for Dame Agnes Weston's Royal Charity for the Naval Service
Aggie’s Pastoral Workers support personnel and families of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary. They offer a listening ear, advice, signposting and provide practical support, social events and activities. By supporting wellbeing, they thereby enhance the Royal Navy’s capability.

Story

I’m a proud veteran’s wife. My husband served in the Army for 22 years, and military life — with all its challenges and sacrifices — has shaped our family in more ways than I can count.

This year, alongside some very dear friends and my sister, I’m taking on a huge challenge: walking across the Sahara Desert. My sister Katherine is a Naval wife, as are Claire and Sabrina, and James, who works as a civilian chef on a Naval base supporting our Naval personnel, is also taking on this challenge with us. Together, we’re all walking in support of Aggies, an incredible charity dedicated to supporting serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families. While we’re taking on the challenge as a group, we each have our own individual fundraising pages — this is not a collective fundraising page.

I’ve dipped my toes in and out of fundraising over the years — a few Great South Runs, a brave (and slightly mad!) attempt at boxing, and the London Moonlight Walk (a full marathon around London through the night). My running days are well and truly behind me now, but walking is something I love and something I can do — so here I am, stepping far outside my comfort zone once again.

Every charity is deserving, but this year my time, effort, and support are dedicated wholeheartedly to Aggies and the vital work they do.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. If you can spare £1 or even £2, it will help me reach my target — every donation truly makes a difference
