kelly's fundraiser for HOPE for Epilepsy

kelly cannings is raising money for HOPE for Epilepsy

Walking 26 miles in 26 days · 1 March 2026

HOPE for Epilepsy run a monthly support group, host an information and advice helpline, organise and fund family days out and provide anti-suffocation pillows free of charge to children and young people who have nocturnal convulsive seizures.

Story

With Purple Day fast approaching, we wanted to raise some money for a fantastic charity that continue to support our family in navigating Mabels epilepsy diagnosis. Their support has been invaluable and their work is truely very important.

3 years on and we are still regulars in Poole Hospital. Unfortunately after 18 months seizure free Mabel relapsed once again and ended up in hospital prior to Christmas. It was an extremely tough time for our family, especially having to care for Mabel and a three week old newborn. Two months on and we are still working through yet more medication changes and frequent low oxygen alarms at night. As ever, Mabel continues to be a legend taking it all in her stride, and thankfully James and I can get a little sleep knowing that we will be alerted if she has a seizure due to the alarm that was donated to us by HOPE for epilepsy.

Next month we will be walking 26 miles starting from the 1st of March and finishing on the 26th March which is Purple Day (Epilepsy Awareness Day). We are hoping to raise money for HOPE so that they can continue to support families like ours. If you can spare a few pennies, I would be so appreciative (see link below to my Just Giving page). Charities like HOPE are invaluable and their amazing work needs to continue.

Epilepsy is a chronic, non-communicable neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures caused by sudden, excessive electrical discharges in the brain. It is generally diagnosed after experiencing two or more seizures, which can manifest as convulsions, loss of consciousness, or temporary confusion. While there is no cure, it is manageable with medication, lifestyle changes, and, in some cases, surgery.
