Story

On 9th August Alina Williams and Kelly Drury are taking part in tandem skydives from 10,000ft to raise money for medical emergency services that respond on Alston Moor, and further afield.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 2,083 call outs in 2024 alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death. 🚁

Alina’s Story:

As a Community first responder for 4.5 years, I have attended over 100 incidents on Alston Moor on behalf of North West Ambulance Service. Recently I attended two incidents in two days that involved the GNAAS. I have always admired the work they do but witnessing it first hand has only reinforced this.

Heartbreakingly, both incidents ended with fatalities but the work of all involved gave one family a chance to say a final goodbye, and to allow organ donation.

None of us know if/when we or our loved ones will need the emergency medical services, and our rural location makes the local ones even more critical. Please help me support our amazing and vital local emergency services by donating what you can.

Kelly’s story:

As a Firefighter with 16 years of experience, I have had the privilege of attending numerous incidents both on and off the Moor. Throughout my career, I have had the honour of working alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) at various emergencies. Their incredible work never ceases to amaze me. I have witnessed firsthand the life-saving care they provide, coupled with the compassion they extend not only to patients but also to their families and friends.

In addition to GNAAS, I have also had the pleasure of working with the dedicated Community First Responder team here on Alston. Their role is vital to our community.

Your generous contributions will help support the Great North Air Ambulance, enabling them to continue their amazing work, saving lives and providing critical care when it is needed most.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
