Forth Valley Giving is the official charity of NHS Forth Valley. Our vision is a healthcare system where people are valued and cared for and communities play a key role in supporting patients to live full and enriched lives. None of our donations are used to fund day to day core NHS services.

Story

Hello, I will be walking up Ben A’an on 15th November 2025 .

This will be in aid of FVRH - renal clinic .

I have a very personal story that I would like to share .

Last year (October) I was in hospital for a month due to my kidney function deteriorating to 17% , I had a high infection rate to the point I was seriously not well with infection alone . This was caused by 2 infected kidneys with a number of factors including delay of hospitalisation and medication toxicity . I was also experiencing a very stressful and upsetting time which made my immunity attack itself .

Forth Valley Royal Hospital were amazing ! But couldn’t do much else for me and I had to get admitted to Glasgow hospital (Queen Elizabeth University Hospital ) . I was to get a biopsy but I felt my body was shutting down, I was too ill for a biopsy at one stage , For a 32 year old mum with two kids I was beginning to beg for my life to be saved …but with the amazing care of QEUH, I was eventually able to get a biopsy . I then was discharged with a whole lot of medication including a high dose of steroids and under the care of Renal clinic in FVRH . I’m still under the renal clinic care.

As I sit here, I can’t even believe how far I’ve came from my hospital bed , not knowing where my life was standing . I honestly didn’t think I was going get through it .

4 months after getting discharged I managed to come off my walking stick and return to work in March 25 .

My work has been outstanding with support I can’t thank my workplace enough 💕

I’m now still in kidney disease 🦠 however, far better than I was in November 24 . I’m now back full time work and concentrating on getting healthier and back to my original fitness level -if I can .

There’s one last thing I need to do - that’s “pay it forward” I need to do something that’s going to help others in similar situations. Also after all the support Renal clinic has given me and still are I feel I need to show so appreciation .

The Renal Clinic in larbert have professionals from Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Goven . If it wasn’t for having a clinic at larbert I would have probably needed to travel to Glasgow every time I have an appointment . They have looked after me making sure I’m on the right track since coming out of hospital .

This challenge I’ve set myself is a challenge !!! since I’ve only came off a walking stick in March but going against all odds I’m going to be doing this with one my very close friends Stacey and anyone else that wants to join us :)

I can’t thank my family , friends and my workplace yous have been the light at the end of the tunnel through it all .

Then Forth valley royal hospital , QEUH and all renal team they literally saved my life - thank you !
