Story
I am very lucky to have been selected as a model for Courage on the Catwalk, in support of Friends of Anchor.
In August 2023 I discovered I was pregnant with my first baby. I soon started to feel really unwell and in January 2024, at 27 weeks pregnant, I was given the awful news that I had bowel cancer. I had a C-Section at 32 weeks followed by emergency bowel surgery 3 days later. In Aberdeen, the main hospital and the maternity / neo natal hospital are separate, so this meant that I didnt get to see my baby for the first week of her life, while I was recovering.
I went on to have chemotherapy, radiotherapy and major abdominal surgery including a bowel resection, colostomy and hysterectomy. I was given the all clear in October 2024 and thankfully am still currently in remission.
I now have a beautiful and amazing little girl Olivia, who is just about to turn 2.
I spent months in hospital during my illness and all the medical staff were incredible. However, the additional care, support and kindness given by the Friends of Anchor team was beyond brilliant. On my first day of chemo, I was wheel chaired up from the maternity hospital to the anchor unit, terrified and in tears. But within 5 minutes I was being treated to a foot massage, a trolley full of snacks and puzzle books, as well as a wonderful chemo-care package full of lovely wellbeing gifts. It completely changed the experience for me and I will be forever thankful to the whole team.
Friends of Anchor are in the unique position where ALL their admin fees are paid for by Balmoral Group. This means that 100% of every penny received, goes directly towards providing care and support to those in need.
Anything you can spare as a small donation to the charity will mean so much - and will help enable the team to continue providing these invaluable services to people who desperately need that extra little bit of love.
Thank you!
