On 10th October, Tyde and I will be taking part in The Forge Project’s Big Sleep Out at Brigg Football Club for World Homeless Day 2026.

For one night, we’ll be sleeping outside with just our sleeping bags — no tents, no home comforts, and definitely no pretending it will be easy! 🥴

Of course, one night can never truly show us what it feels like to experience homelessness. We know that when morning comes, we will be able to return to a warm, safe home. For many people, that security simply isn’t there.

That is why we are doing this.

As part of Tyde’s home education, I try to give him opportunities to understand the world beyond books and worksheets — to experience things that encourage compassion, empathy, gratitude and an awareness of the lives other people may be living.

I want him to grow up understanding that homelessness is not just something we pass on the street or hear about on the news. Behind every situation is a person, a story and a life.

For us, this night is about stepping outside our comfort zone, appreciating what we have, having important conversations together and, most importantly, helping raise money for The Forge Project and the work they do supporting people experiencing homelessness.
