Story
This year brings big challenges for both Helen and me. Helen will be taking part in several organised runs and walks (and I’m hoping to convince her to tackle a half marathon!). For me, the big goal is in September: completing a 100-mile trail race. After nearly being finished off by a 100k, I’ve decided to go even bigger! Along the way, I’ll be running a mix of training events like half marathons, marathons, and even a cheeky 50k.
Finally there will be a number of other events being planned with the big one being a golf weekend, which myself and a good friend are attending in Dubai.
We’re doing this to raise vital funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA), a cause incredibly close to my heart. In November 2023, my daughter Sennen was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) after experiencing seizures as a baby. An MRI revealed tubers on multiple organs, and she is now under the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital with ongoing treatment for epilepsy and monitoring of tubers. The TSA has been a lifeline, offering emotional and practical support as we navigate this journey. While the future is uncertain, their guidance gives us hope just as it does for countless families affected by this rare condition.
This challenge is also personal for me. I live with Multiple Sclerosis and Crohn’s disease and expect to be diagnosed with ADHD this year (which explains a lot!). Training for and completing a 100-mile race is a huge undertaking, and honestly, I’m a little worried, but determined and hopefully under 24hrs.
The TSA is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting people with TSC, a genetic condition that can cause growths in organs such as the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, skin, and lungs. Complications often arise from the size and location of these growths. By donating, you’ll help the TSA continue its life-changing work, providing hope and support to families like ours.
Thank you for standing with us. Every contribution makes a difference.
