On June 24th, two powerful earthquakes — magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 — struck Venezuela within 40 seconds of each other, causing catastrophic destruction across the country. It is the strongest earthquake Venezuela has experienced in over a century.

Buildings have collapsed in La Guaira state and across multiple regions. Many people are confirmed dead and hundreds injured, with the toll expected to rise as rescue operations continue through the night. Families are trapped beneath rubble. Communities have lost power and communications. Schools are being turned into emergency shelters.

Venezuela was already one of the most fragile countries in the region, with a healthcare system stretched beyond its limits. This disaster has struck a population that has very little margin to absorb it.

Healing Venezuela is mobilising support for emergency medical response on the ground. The funds raised will go to support our junior doctors in the affected sires, rescue services and to buy medical supplies. Every donation — however small — will go directly towards helping those most in need right now.
